The Y-type filter consists of a connecting pipe, main pipe, filter screen (filter “blue”), flange, flange cover, and fastener. When liquid flows into the filter basket through the main pipe, solid impurities are trapped in the filter screen, and the clean fluid passes through the filter basket and is discharged from the filter outlet.

The Y-type strainer is designed for low flow resistance and convenient discharge of collected solids.
The filter screen is formed as a cylindrical filter basket to enhance strength compared with a single-layer screen. The flange cover at the lower end of the Y-shaped inlet connection can be unscrewed to periodically remove particles accumulated in the filter basket.
Y-type strainers offer an advanced structure, low resistance, and convenient blowdown/discharge. Suitable media can include water, oil and gas. As a reference, typical mesh ranges are:
• Water network: 18–30 mesh
• Ventilation network: 10–100 mesh
• Oil-passing network: 100–480 mesh
Basket strainers are mainly composed of a connecting pipe, main pipe, filter screen, flange, flange cover, and fasteners. When the liquid enters the filter screen through the main pipe, solid impurities are retained by the filter screen, and the cleaned fluid passes through the screen and exits from the strainer outlet.
Product Advantages
1. Neat design, with a preset pressure testing opening on the body.
2. Convenient and quick operation. Depending on the customer’s requirements, the screwed plug on the body can be replaced with a ball valve, allowing the outlet to connect to the drain/sewage pipe. This enables pressure-assisted discharge of collected solids without removing the bonnet.
3. Filter screens with different filtering accuracies can be provided according to customer requirements, making screen cleaning more convenient.
4. The fluid passageway is scientifically and reasonably designed to reduce flow resistance and improve flow performance. The total mesh area is 3–4 times that of DN.
5. The telescopic structure allows easier installation and removal.

In industrial and building services applications, protecting pumps, valves, and downstream equipment is essential for reliable system operation. A Y type strainer is a key component used to maintain fluid integrity by removing solid debris and particles from the pipeline.
The primary function of a Y type strainer is to capture unwanted solids such as dirt, rust, scale, and other contaminants. By retaining impurities within the strainer basket/screen, the device helps protect the overall system and supports stable operation with reduced maintenance interruption.
What distinguishes the Y type strainer is its Y-shaped body and screen arrangement. As the flow passes through the screen, particulate matter is retained. When the strainer becomes clogged, the basket and screen can be cleaned or serviced with minimal disruption, making this design particularly suitable for applications where continuous operation is required.
Y type strainers are used across many industries, including water treatment, chemical processing, and oil & gas. They can be installed in different pipeline configurations. Selecting the appropriate strainer configuration and filtration accuracy depends on your specific operating conditions.
STORAEN’s Y-type strainers are available across a broad range of pipeline sizes, supporting use in residential, commercial, and industrial applications. The strainer is designed to help trap rust, scale, sand, and other solids for pipeline protection across different DN sizes.
A Y Type Strainer is a fluid filtration component used to remove impurities and solid particles from pipework. Its Y-shaped design guides the flow through the screen, where solids are retained in the basket. Clean fluid passes through the screen and exits through the outlet, supporting stable system operation.
The Y Type Strainer is made from QT450 material, suitable for the intended duty as specified for the product.
The Y Type Strainer is suitable for use in different pipeline orientations. For correct installation and to achieve effective filtration, please follow the recommended installation guidelines for your system.
Maintenance is carried out by periodically removing and cleaning the screen. The flange cover at the lower end can be unscrewed to access the filter basket for removal of accumulated particles. The frequency of cleaning should be based on the cleanliness of the fluid and the operating conditions.
The product is specified for a work temperature range of -5°C to 85°C (reference value as stated in the product specification).
The available sizes are listed in the dimension tables on this page (including DN50, DN65, DN80, DN100, DN125, DN150, DN200, DN250, DN300, DN350, and DN400, depending on the selected configuration).
